Eating the right foods is not only good for your body, but good for your brain, too. A recent study published in Women’s health described how a man not only lost 100 pounds using a healthy diet, but he raised his IQ by 20 point in the process!
Dave Asprey, author of the bestselling book, The Bulletproof Diet, described how, over the course of 15 years, he was able to make major changes in his lifestyle and diet, lose 100 pounds, and boost his IQ along the way.
Asprey documented the foods that he ate and the activities he participated in, and reported the information in his book. He presents the diet in his book, so that others can try it and see if they get the same results.
The idea is that if you give your body the right foods that help your brain, you will not only strengthen your body but your brain as well. This means that you will have more willpower, a greater ability to resist cravings, and greater discipline when it comes to sticking to a healthy diet.
Here are some of the main points that Asprey makes when it comes to changing your diet and boosting your IQ:
1. Add Fat
This doesn’t mean adding more junk food and processed foods to your diet, it means adding in big doses of healthy fats. Healthy omega fatty acids are important for brain development, and can help your brain be healthier. There are many different types of cells within your brain matter, and each type likes a different kind of fat. Asprey suggests using his recipe for coffee, which includes low mold coffee beans as well as a tablespoon of medium chain triglyceride oil, and two tablespoons of unsalted butter. You could opt for adding coconut oil to your coffee, as an option, and eating more foods containing fatty acids like salmon and avocado.
2. Add Protein
Your brain will also benefit from having more protein in your diet. There are plenty of amino acids in proteins, which can help build the necessary neurotransmitters your brain needs. Ensuring that you are eating a moderate amount of animal protein can increase your brain power. Egg yolks are especially good, because they contain choline, so choose the full egg omelet instead of egg whites for best brain boosting effects!
3. Less Grains, Legumes, Beans and Coffee
This may come as a shock, but these foods often contain high levels of mould. Because mould contains neurotoxins, and these can cause your brain to work slower.
Ensuring that you are adding healthy amounts of fats and proteins, and avoiding foods that may contain neurotoxins can help your brain work better. You will lose weight, and boost brain power all at the same time!
